Maladra are the principal owners of Syscom Tech, a Moorsetown, NJ-based electronic components distributor and contract manufacturer that has won certification of both the IECQ HSPM QC O80000 Restrictions of Hazardous Materials (RoHS) and ISO 9001:2000 certifications. eepn2's Ron Schneiderman talked with Anninos and Maladra about the new certification and its impact on their business.

TONY MALADRA of SYSCOM TECH, an electronic components distributor and contract manufacturer
Peter Anninos
eepn2: How much of an effort went into achieving the RoHS certification? Anninos: This was no small undertaking. We tried to be as proactive was we could. We worked in conjunction with Contract Management Services of Mount Laurel, NJ, which we hired to train and prepare us for the independent registrar that would come in and audit us for a week and certify us. Our employee team has invested over 10,000 man-hours to achieve these certifications, which are now a fundamental component of our manufacturing process. Our customers’ commitment, dedication, and perseverance were a true team accomplishment. Our customers will benefit from our education, new technology, and process management.
eepn2: What do these certifications mean to your business? Anninos: We are in a very competitive business. IECQ HASPM QC O80000 RoHS and ISO 9001:2000 are the good standard certifications. We’re a small company and we pride ourselves on not having as much bureaucracy and perhaps a little more flexibility than other companies. We think a lot of our competitors are pursuing what we have already accomplished. Both certifications demonstrate to our customers and prospective customers an unparalleled level of quality and adherence to a rigid set of manufacturing standards.

eepn2: Are your customers taking the RoHS directives as seriously as you have?
